Up, up in the sky! It’s a bird… 2021.02.04
I wanted to continue telling tales of horror but alas, in terms of personal (and horrific) experience I had only those two encounters to share. I had heard many from my family members especially my grandmother. I think it could have gone both ways in the past. Firstly, because of lack of development and the slow evolution of mankind, supernatural creatures could prevail. They could safely lurk in forests and other places overgrown with flora and because people did not have things like smartphones and Netflix to entertain them, they were more prone to indulge in the occult to have their wishes and revenges fulfilled and to also occupy their free time.
On the other hand, it could have been because that same lack of visual and mental stimulation that could have made their imaginations run wild. I am not very aware of the current viral sensations as I am not a fan of Youtube, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. There could be stories swimming around the internet but just generally, I have not heard of any recent close encounters.
A young housemate of mine, from a village in Vietnam, did have a story to tell. He spoke of the ghost of a girl who was often spotted in the toilets for the girls at his school. He knew firsthand of two girls who had claimed to see the spectre. Hysterical screams, tears and panic made it all too real for anyone to think the students were lying. The ghost was not vengeful as no harm came to the girls but it was such a traumatic event that his classmate of faint heart could not bear it and left the school. I think I would have been walking by her side as she left!
I decided to share some culture about my country. We are a very open-minded bunch and inhuman monsters are a normal feature in our belief system. One of the most popular characters from our folklore tales is known as a ‘soucouyant’. It is believed that she is the willing consort of the devil. In exchange for her nuptial vow she gains the ability to remove her outer layer or shell of human skin and become a ball-shaped, raging inferno that flies about at night and hunts for women whom she finds attractive. It may be someone she already knows. These unfortunate ones become a victim of her unholy, eternal thirst for blood!
I'm like a chihuahua. Small but fierce and full of energy. I'm generally a positive person and try to make the best of each day.
