Tokyo job market (Is it hard to find a job in this economy?)
So the economic crisis is here. My tiny retirement nest is rapidly shrinking just like the job market does. Oh well. There are jobs (if you don’t be too picky) in Tokyo still and so as many job seekers. Many times I was told that the position has already filled. I was feeling helpless. You know that feeling you get by keep pushing yourself toward your goal, but the success depends on others’ decisions. I was feeling sick of being at HR personnel’s ‘beck and call. But nobody cares my whining. You have to pick up free job papers (they are at train stations, convenience stores, or wherever you see the brochure look alike in the cheap metal frames where no one is attending), search and apply on the net, register with agencies (I had five agents) and release anonymous resumes online. I ended up landing at 3 temp jobs after 2.5 months of job hunting. Now I’m a temp worker in an office environment but my very first job in Tokyo was a dish-washer responding to a posting at an establishment. Getting used to local people through working, no matter what kind of occupation that is, will grow confidence as knowing you can earn money. In the journey of getting a job, I once again would like to express my appreciation to my dorm mates for not being nosy at all. THEY KEPT THEIR INDIFFERENCE in JUST THE RIGHT LEVEL throughout my unemployment time.
