Cherry Blossom (Ohana-mi)
Spring has come! Bring picnic sheets, six packs, sake, snacks, food, and some friends (or just yourself). It’s called Ohana-mi (direct meaning is Flower watch; what you actually do is having a picnic party under the cherry tree). I went to see what it’s like at the one in the Ueno Park. A lot of people!!! And beautiful cherry blossom. When you drink outside under gorgeous flower, you will have to admit that the life is not that bad. You’ve got to go. I know there are way too many people and you may have to sit very close to those strangers for the limited space, it absolutely worth it. There are many famous spots: http://www.tachikawaonline.jp/local/sakura/ (listed in Japanese but if you click flower picture and follow the link, some site provides English choice). Nobody gives you a look being drunk in a public at Ohana-mi. You don’t drink? You are still invited. Go to witness the flower while you can. It will give you a precious one day peace to your mind.
