About "Big Size Soba"

Super-Size me Baby! For FREEEEE!!!!!!!!!(Or like almost free)

big.soba.jpg

Have you ever stuffed your face so full of noodles that you just simply could not move from your seat and your buddies are like "Dude Let's Go, Gotta Spark a Biggie Bro -Time for a boot down the 10th" and your all like,"Oh ma God main, just gimme a seck bra, think I ate too much". Sound more like the lunch buffet at The "Little Spagetti House" downtown London? How about Tokyo? Well as a westerner living in here, sometimes I just wanna stuffin my face fat full of fixings and useless calories for as little mooley as possible.

My mission today is help you do just the same!

Imagine:

There's this place in Ikebukuro I went to today after a job interview:

(at least the food was good)

a). Impressive from the outside - new, clean wooden panels, modern lighting along long white marble top and seating bar that encircled a stainless steele kitchen.

b). Everyone inside was "mid-level" management age, most 30 and up.

A + B + in my mind = "must be expensive, small portions - still hungry"

I decided to try it out anyways. And am so glad I did,for this was the holliest of holly days (at least this week)

for this was the day I discovered the "Big Size Button"!

SUPER SIZING IN TOKYO IS CHEAP!

Most "Gaijin" (foreigners) expect food in Tokyo to be small portioned and expensive. This is simply NOT TRUE!

THE SIZE UP BOTTON ROCKS!

Why?

Because you ALWAYS have the option to 1.5 X or even DOUBLE the size of your RAMEN or SOBA for an extra 100 or 150 yen. Thats twice the food for an extra dollar. Here's the BEST part: **SOMETIMES "Big Sizin" is even FREEE!!!!!!

"Dude where is this button at?" You ask.

Kanji - I don't understand so if your like me just look down - to the BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER of the coin machine

(located in most noodle shops - this is how you pay..via machine) Look for the numbers "1.5" or "2x" and press it.

If you can't find it, just ask one of the staff where it is - Say: "Size-up button doko desu ka?" or "Oki-Size Kudasai" point to your fat stomach, give a big smile.

They should get the idea - and help you out. Like G.I. Joe said, "knowing is half the battle", just give an effort and you'll find it.

Enjoy:

Walla - For a total of like $7 you'll be able to enjoy a little of life back home,

Undo a notch in your belt, and sit back in glutonouse satisfaction.

The End

Oakhouse Guest House
What's About Tokyo Survivor

Hey everyone, I'm from a small farming community in Canada, Population 3000. Quite a contrast with Tokyo, yet I love them both! I came to Japan about 3 years ago and have since then discovered Budo, Ramen, Shimokitazawa and Gyaru-Sone. Gotta love it. I'll be blogging here for Oakhouse for some time and hope to make the most of it. You can bet that the further I go along, the deeper into Tokyo's numerous sub-cultures will I go. So come along with me into my strange miss-adventures and we'll reveal sides of Tokyo few people know. With a population the size of Canada were bound to run into something funky!
Here's to "never stop discovering", Kindly Yours,
Matt
