"The Difficult, but Fun and Rewarding Job"

Tutoring in Tokyo or "The Difficult, but Fun and Rewarding Job".
Tutoring - or giving "one to one"/"man to man" lessons in an interesting job to do in Tokyo.
You can make alot of money and make a lot of loose friends. I've been in Tokyo for 3 years
and have kept many of the same "students" mostly - friends I would say this entire time.

Its not always easy, you have to be flexible!
Sometimes you have to travel long distances,or your student may live next door.
Sometimes you will teach old people or young people or men or women...
People with various jobs and professional experiences and various levels of English.

There's alot of freedom with the job;
We can choose the types of books or lesson materials, decide on when and where to meet.
We can set our own goals and there's no boss "breathing down my neck" so to speak.
There is a lot of freedom - but you MUST HOLD yourself RESPONSIBLE for their success or failure.

My advice to any foreigner in Japan is this;
Because the Japanese are kinda "shy" - or less outspoken than other people - especially westerners...
Try your hardest to meet as many Japanese people on a "one to one" basis as possible.

People are different at their work than they are when speaking with them outside their jobs.
They will tell you about their life and problems and dreams - you can have regular
conversations with them just like back in Europe, The States or Canada!
And of course, if you teach "one to one" lessons - all the better you'll make money and actually be able to
communicate with them you guessed it, because THEY CAN at least a little - speak English.

But DO NOT take a "tutoring job" unless just for money.
YOU should GENUINELY LIKE PEOPLE and WANT TO HELP THEM improve their English.

Oakhouse Guest House
What's About Tokyo Survivor

Hey everyone, I'm from a small farming community in Canada, Population 3000. Quite a contrast with Tokyo, yet I love them both! I came to Japan about 3 years ago and have since then discovered Budo, Ramen, Shimokitazawa and Gyaru-Sone. Gotta love it. I'll be blogging here for Oakhouse for some time and hope to make the most of it. You can bet that the further I go along, the deeper into Tokyo's numerous sub-cultures will I go. So come along with me into my strange miss-adventures and we'll reveal sides of Tokyo few people know. With a population the size of Canada were bound to run into something funky!
Here's to "never stop discovering", Kindly Yours,
Matt
