SOCIAL RESIDENCE CHOFU

Osanpo-tai

The Osanpo-tai explores! What kind of place is Tsutsujigaoka?

Exploring the area around Social Residence Chofu in the quiet neighborhood of Tsutsujigaoka

A new Social Residence opens in Tsutsujigaoka on the Keio line on June 1st, 2015.
The area around Tsutsujigaoka station is green with nature, and the house is in a quiet residential neighborhood. There are many shops lining the large road, with many restaurants as well. There are many cheap supermarkets in the area so you can save money! Enjoy nice days off with a stroll through the park just a short walk from the station!
In this issue, Kan, Josephine, and the Lee couple formed an "Osanpo-tai" to explore Tsutsujigaoka!

Ikutsushima Shrine

Festivals in the autumn!
Behind the share house is a Shinto shrine with an old-style atmosphere. Just watching the children play nearby made us feel like we were in a time warp. A nice place to make you wishes!

Off to the shrine!

Praying. Will our wishes come true?

Large supermarket

High quality and low prices
Only 20 SECONDS from the house is this pro supermarket! You can buy in bulk which is great if you're trying out new recipes. A great place to shop if you need to buy things for a party too. Fun to come here with your house mates!

What should we make for dinner tonight??

Dry cleaning across the street too!

Tsutsujigaoka atmosphere

Explore!
Though Tsutsujigaoka station isn't as lively as, say, Shinjuku or Shibuya, it has many supermarkets, fast food, coffee, video rental, drug stores, izakayas, and locally-owned shops and restaurants as well. You can also get old-style set lunches and dango snacks here. You might feel a sense of history here, which is one of its charm points. This place can really feel like home.

Many chain stores in the area around the station.

Let's explore the shopping streets!

Many places to have a set lunch.

Old family-style taste.

Everest Kitchen

Everest-sized naan!
There are a lot of Indian curry restaurants around Tsutsujigaoka! Cheap and filling! Find your favorite place where you can be a regular customer. :)
This curry place is particularly known for its huge naan!

You can tell right away that this curry shop is the real deal.

Can't help but take a photo of the huge naan. Bigger than our heads!

Shibasakitei

3.64★ ranking on Tabelog
There is a really popular ramen shop outside the station that always has long lines. It is a simple soy-sauce-based ramen. It also has stewed and fried pork, and wontons that melt in your mouth. We finished before we knew it! They also make a sweet tomato cold ramen perfect for summer. Looks like you can't go wrong here!

We finally made it to the front of the line!

Simple, old-style ramen.

Bouldering gym hangout

First "bouldering" experience!
Time to burn off those calories. Take a little walk to find this rock-climbing gym. Get fit!

More and more women are taking up rock climbing too.

Time to climb some walls!

Saneatsu Park

This area is where novelist Saneatsu Mushanokoji spent his final 20 years. Once you emerge from the tunnel, you are surrounded by nature, much like in Spirited Away. This is a nice park to read a book or just enjoy nature, or talk with your friends.

We found this tunnel... time to go on an adventure!

Can't help but smile at all the green plants!

Take in this atmosphere and scenery.

It's fun to come with your friends. Bring a picnic!

【The end】

So, what did you think of the Osanpo-tai's excursion to Social Residence Chofu? You may not have ever even heard of Tsutsujigaoka, but it has lots of great shops and restaurants and of course a sense of nature you don't usually get in Tokyo. You also have good access to the rest of the city on the train lines. It's a great place to explore and hang out with your friends. Why not come live out here?
