Eventually the ledge-like trail gave way to stairs to the left, going down the lake’s side and to the right, leading up to the park and picnic area we had first encountered. There were also some small benches perfectly situated for one to sit and enjoy the panaromic view of sea and land. In the distance, the twinkle of sunlight as it reflected off the windows of cars driving along a bridge drew our attention and broke the natural landscape that we were admiring. We decided to take a snack break and had some fresh pineapple slices, chocolate biscuits, sandwiches, hot coffee and lemon juice. As the snacks fuelled our bodies internally with sugar and energy, we also basked in the weak rays of the sun, warming our outsides simultaneously. From our positions we could see a small dock but by the look of it, it seemed closed. Something to be investigated once we got down there. It was indeed closed when we had descended the stairs and taken a closer look. Perhaps as there was no one around to monitor the safety of visitors and it didn’t appear like it would take much for a small child or animal to slip off the edge and be gobbled up by the dark, seemingly bottomless liquid that did not reflect the sun or sky. My mate was fascinated by the many photo opportunities that presented themselves as we stood behind the wooden and sometimes metal rails, mere metres from the water’s edge. The vibrancy of the colours of the plants and trees was amazing. The serenity in that location was unbroken by the spectators who wandered around as there was not a crowd, only a sprinkling of people who were few and far between. The chances to take snapshots unspoilt by the human form were many. We slowly walked along the waterfront area, admiring the colours of God’s creations and absorbing the gentle sounds of the wind as it lifted the dead leaves with its invisible hand and fluttered the ones still holding on before the full winter arrived. I must say that I am really pleased that technology has pushed things forward to the extent that a great camera is included in an everyday item like a phone and additionally, you do not need tons of skill. The camera does the work with all its amazing filters and high resolution quality.
