Tama city is often called “Tama New Town”, as it is a fast-growing bedroom town with a population of 150,000 people, with many families. It has many parks and walking paths, and has good access to schools and stations without getting too close to busy car roads, so children can walk around safely. Tama Center station is also home to the Sanrio Puroland amusement park, and there is plenty of shopping nearby. The Nagayama and Suwa areas have an older population, and due to lower birth rates, a lot of elementary schools are being converted into nursing homes.
