Carry the Mikoshi, feel the Festival!

A Mikoshi is a traditional portable shrine carried through the streets during festivals, carrying the deity and allowing people to experience the excitement of a traditional Japanese festival. It is truly a powerful “moving shrine.”

With the cooperation of the local neighborhood association that organizes the festival, Oakhouse has prepared a special opportunity for you to experience carrying a Mikoshi!

Surrounded by lively chants and the sound of taiko drums, why not experience a Japanese festival by carrying the Mikoshi together with the other participants?

The Mikoshi event will be held in Mukojima, Sumida-ku, Tokyo, where you can enjoy a great view of Tokyo Skytree.

After the festival is over, a social gathering for participants is also planned. Please feel free to join us.

September 20th (Sunday)

Mikoshi・・・13:00 ～ 17:30 (divided into 3 time slots)
Social gathering・・・18:00 ～ around 19:30 (complete departure by 20:00)

■Application Details
Each time slot has a maximum capacity of 8 participants. Registration will close once all spots are filled.
If you have a preferred time slot, please apply as early as possible.

■Eligibility
Anyone is welcome to participate, regardless of whether they are an Oakhouse resident.

(This includes current Oakhouse residents, former residents, people who are planning to live at Oakhouse, friends of Oakhouse residents, etc.)

Those who are not Oakhouse residents are required to register as an Oakhouse member.

■Clothing / What to Bring
① Plain T-shirt (white, black, gray, etc.)
② Black or gray pants (either short or long pants are fine)
③ Jika-tabi (Japanese split-toe footwear) (Required)*

*You can either prepare your own jikatabi (traditional Japanese split-toe shoes) or order them through Oakhouse if preparation is difficult. In that case, an additional ¥1,500 for the jikatabi will be added to the participation fee.
*If you purchase your own tabi, please make sure they are the type with rubber soles suitable for walking outdoors, rather than the soft sock-type tabi.

*A hanten (festival jacket) will be provided at registration.
*Changing rooms are available at the meeting location.

■Participation Fee
＜For those who will carry the Mikoshi＞
・Oakhouse residents: ¥1,500
・Non-residents: ¥3,000
As a rental & cleaning fee for the happi coat
※ If you would like to purchase jikatabi through Oakhouse, please select “Purchase (+¥1,500)” on the application form.

＜For those who will NOT carry the Mikoshi＞
※ For those who only wish to watch the festival or participate in the social gathering
