Have you ever experienced "Setsubun"?

Setsubun is a traditional Japanese event held the day before spring begins (on February 2nd or 3rd). On this day, people perform "bean-throwing" (mamemaki) while chanting "Out with demons! In with good fortune!" to drive away evil spirits and invite happiness. It is also customary to eat the same number of beans as your age to pray for good health. Various temples and shrines hold bean-throwing events that attract large crowds. Setsubun is a unique cultural event in Japan enjoyed by families and communities.

This time, we’ll be attending the Setsubun event held annually at the famous Zojoji Temple in Minato City, Tokyo.
We will meet at JR Hamamatsucho Station and walk approximately 12 minutes to Zojoji Temple.

During the Setsubun event, you can see a parade of participants wearing traditional samurai-style "kamishimo," enjoy mochi pounding, and experience bean-throwing from a stage. Celebrities and sumo wrestlers often join as bean-throwers. Let’s experience Setsubun together!

After the event, we plan to take a stroll around Zojoji Temple and visit the nearby Tokyo Tower.
