Okinawa Share House Experience! Our Staff Stayed and Here’s What They Thought!
Okinawa is one of Japan’s top resort destinations, known for its crystal-clear blue waters, beautiful beaches, warm climate, and friendly people.
But beyond being a popular travel spot, this region has a deep-rooted culture that makes it an attractive place to live as well.
If you’re visiting Okinawa, why not skip the hotel and experience local life in a share house instead?
Our staff recently stayed at OAKBASE OKINAWA YONABARU, which opened in December 2024, and got to experience its unique charm firsthand!
We’ll share all the details—from the open, spacious environment that embodies the Okinawan lifestyle to the connections formed between housemates, and the moments that made us think, “I could actually live here!”
Whether you're considering a fresh start in Okinawa or just planning a short stay, this report will give you a closer look at what makes this share house special. Be sure to check it out!
Arriving at the Property! First Impressions…?
After taking the monorail and bus from Naha Airport, we finally arrived at the share house. As we got closer to our destination, the first thing that caught our eye was the green exterior. The fresh, vibrant color stood out beautifully against Okinawa’s bright blue sky.

What’s Inside the House?
When we made our way up to the second-floor living space, we were surprised to find a hammock! It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in the beautiful Okinawan views—truly a dream relaxation space. Having a hammock in your living area is definitely something to envy!

You can even have a BBQ in the courtyard! It’s the perfect spot to gather with everyone and enjoy some special moments that only a share house can offer. The weather was great and warm that day, so our staff even ended up working outside!

The most captivating feature, though, was the view from the balcony. It was so relaxing to enjoy the beautiful scenery while feeling the Okinawan breeze. The weather was perfect that day, and we could even see the ocean!

There are a total of three private rooms, and during our stay, we had the chance to meet two of the housemates!
We decided to ask them for their thoughts on living in the house.

◎ What’s Great:
・There aren’t many share houses in Okinawa that offer English support, but OAKBASE does, so I felt comfortable living here even though my Japanese isn’t perfect!
・During the online tour, they clearly explained both the pros and cons of the house, so I was able to move in with peace of mind, and there were no surprises!
・The staff’s support is great, and it’s reassuring to know that I can always reach out via message if I have any questions.
△ A Few Concerns:
・The location is a bit inconvenient… I think the Naha area would be more convenient.

◎ What’s Great:
・The kitchen and refrigerator are huge! As a chef, I really appreciate having enough space to cook comfortably!
・The website has clear information, and the services offered are well-rounded, so I felt confident moving in.
△ A Few Concerns:
・I wish there was more personal storage space in the kitchen… (Maybe this is just a chef’s dilemma!?)
It was really great to hear directly from the people who are actually living here. Both of them are from overseas and seem to be enjoying their life in Okinawa, which makes us happy too!
Since We’re in Okinawa, Let’s Enjoy the Local Cuisine!
Since we’re in Okinawa, we decided to dive into some of the island’s unique cuisine and headed out from the house.
Among all the places we visited during our stay, here’s one restaurant we highly recommend!
Tamaya Soba
15-Minute Bike Ride from the House

A popular spot packed with locals! With great reviews, the noodles were perfectly chewy, and the light broth was absolutely delicious. You can choose from various types of Okinawa soba, such as "sanmai-niku soba" (pork belly), "soki soba" (pork ribs), or "tebichi soba" (pig’s feet). Not only was the soba fantastic, but the Okinawan "jushi" (savory rice) was also incredibly tasty! It’s so convenient to have a famous Okinawa soba restaurant within biking distance from the house!

GORDIE’S
30-Minute Drive from the House

Since we’re in Okinawa, we couldn’t miss out on a delicious burger! So, we rented a car and headed to GORDIE’S, a burger spot that’s even been featured in the Tabelog Top 100 Burgers. The place has a cool, stylish vibe with vintage furniture and accessories, giving it an American feel. The burger was massive and incredibly tasty! With more than 10 different burger options, it’s definitely a place we’ll want to visit again!
