Frequently Asked Questions

About GAIA

GAIA is a licensed job (employment) placement service for international residents in Japan, run by Renaissance Inc., a company in the OAKHOUSE group. “Career Members” is our free membership: as a member, you receive job introductions matched to your skills and language ability, plus support from a team that understands life in Japan as a foreign resident.

In short: free job introductions matched to you; support with your resume, interviews and starting your new job; and access to roles where your language skills (including English) and international background are a real advantage. Because we are part of the OAKHOUSE group, we support both your work and your daily life in Japan.

Yes. GAIA is completely free for job seekers — you never pay us any fee. Our fees are paid by the hiring companies, so you can use the service at no cost.

Registration

OAKHOUSE residents are the heart of our community, and the service is designed around them. You are welcome to join even if you are not yet a resident, though living in an OAKHOUSE shared house gives you the smoothest support — housing and career in one place.

You can register from outside Japan, and we will keep in touch and help you prepare. Please note that, in line with Japanese regulations, we begin introducing jobs once you are living in Japan. Many members first arrange their home through OAKHOUSE, then start their job search with us after arriving.

Yes, we would like to receive your resume / CV in order to understand your past career better. However, if you don't know how to write them, we help you prepare a resume / CV (a Japanese-style rōreki-sho or a standard CV). If you already have one, you are welcome to share it with us so we can match you faster.

No. A JLPT certificate is not required to join or to use GAIA. We assess your Japanese ability in our own way and match you with suitable roles — including many where English is the main working language.

Eligibility

No. You can join with little or no Japanese. GAIA specializes in connecting English-speaking residents with roles that have low Japanese requirements — such as English teaching and after-school programs, IT and game studios, and guest-facing roles at hotels serving international visitors.

Absolutely. Many of the roles we introduce welcome people with no previous work experience in Japan, and some include training. We also help you understand how hiring and interviews work here, so you can feel confident.

Yes. Working holiday visa holders can join and be introduced to jobs, since this visa generally allows you to work in Japan. We match you with roles that fit your visa and the time you have.

Jobs

Our main focus is full-time and career-track positions. Depending on the role and your visa, we may also be able to introduce part-time opportunities — just let us know your preferences when you register.

GAIA’s job placement service is now open. Once you join as a Career Member, we can begin introducing suitable jobs to you — there is no waiting period to get started.

Privacy

After you register, a career adviser of our team contacts you to learn about your background and goals, and then starts introducing suitable jobs. If you are still outside Japan, we help you prepare first and begin introductions once you are living here.

Your information is used only to provide the GAIA job placement service — to understand your background, match you with suitable jobs, and keep you informed. We do not use it for unrelated purposes.

Yes. We manage your personal information carefully, under our personal information management rules and Japanese law, and we do not share it without a proper basis. When we introduce you to a company, we share only what is necessary for that introduction, with your understanding.
