OAK APARTMENT TOBU NERIMA

Oak Explorers

Oak Explorers: Tobu-Nerima

To Ikebukuro in 15 minutes, or Shinjuku in 27! We've opened apartments in Tobu Nerima. What is the town like? Ito from the marketing department, Maxim from the Info Center, and Oak Blogger Jun explored the area for us!

Tobu Tojo line, Tobu Nerima station

Here we are in front of Tobu Nerima station!

The Nerima station on the Seibu Ikebukuro line is a different place!
Though the station shares the "Nerima" name, the address is actually in Itabashi ward. It's a little strange, but oh well. The Tobu Nerima station name came from the stables used from the Edo period, Shimo Nerima Majuku.

Longest shopping street along the Tobu Tojo line!

There is a large shopping street from the south side of Tobu Nerima station!

Shopping!
A shopping street extends alone the old Kawagoe highway on the south side of the station. There are three main streets that make up the area: Kita-ichi, Kitamachi, and New Kitamachi. It's the largest shopping area along the Tojo line. There are bakeries, Italian restaurants, curry shops, and chain restaurants, and many more. There are rental shops, supermarket, phone stores, and convenience stores.

Kitamachi-Kannondo

Kitamachi Kannondo

Largest stone Kannon
A shrine to Kannon lies in the middle of the shopping area. The stone statue has been here since the Edo period. Japan does not have many resources in terms of large stones, so there was never much of a tradition of stonework in Japan. That's what makes this statue so rare. It's apparently the largest stone statue of Kannon in Japan! If you don't know who Kannon is, she is a bodhisattva who is promised to become Buddha one day, but she is still training. She does her best to help people and animals.

There are stone guardian statues, too!

We stopped by!

Many handsome chefs!

Chic Italian
Just a minute from the station is a great Italian restaurant. Looking at the outside, it looked like a simple Japanese-style restaurant, but inside was very stylish with tables and counters. The lunch course includes bread, salad, and either meat or fish, dessert, and a drink, and they of course also serve pasta, pizza, and...curry! You can order a drink and dessert set too. The carbonara had a rich tasty sauce; the pepperoncino had juicy thick bacon, the margherita had lots of cheese, and everything was so delicious! They also have a large selection of craft beers. They get fresh fish from Tsukiji market every morning, too!

Drinks, salad, and bread set for about 1000 yen!

Kitamachi Aoba park

Sitting on a bench while the sunlight filters through the trees

Small place to relax
We need to take a break after stuffing ourselves full. Just a minute from Hibikorekimiomo is Kitamachi Aoba park. Even though we thought we couldn't eat another bite, we bought some amazing looking peaches from a greengrocer nearby. The grocer washed them for us so we could eat them immediately!
There are no sort of playground areas at this park, but it's a nice place to sit in the shade. The peaches were wonderfully sweet and we had a lovely relaxing chat in the park.

Mother Leaf Tobu Nerima

Just 20 seconds from the station is a waffle shop. We were full, but we couldn't resist the pictures of waffles piled with fresh fruit. There were many ladies in the shops eating cakes and waffles. Jun couldn't decide what to order! We had waffles with passion fruit, and mille-feuille cupcake with berry mousse. The waffle is nice and crisp on the outside and soft inside. It's also presented wonderfully. The fruit sauce matched well. At lunch, waffles are all-you-can-eat! This is a good place to come for tea time with a friend, or a date, or a ladies day out!

Wonderful waffles!

Looks so beautiful!

Editor's notes

How did you like the Oak Explorer report of Tobu Nerima?
Today we mostly focused on the south side of the station, but there are still many places left unexplored! There We really wanted to check out the curry restaurants too. There are also convenience stores and drugstores for daily life. Also, we forgot to mention the Aeon mall on the north side! There is a Starbucks, movie theater, and more. You can plan entire days around just this area, so we hope you have fun exploring Tobu Nerima too!

My recommendation: Hibikorekimiomo's Gateau chocolat!
