Station overview
Hana Koganei station is in Tokyo's Kodaira city, along the Seibu Shinjuku line. It opened in 1927, and saw remodeling work in 1974. The south exit was opened in 1998. There is local and express service. There are escalators and elevators, which make the station easier to use for wheelchair users and others. There is also an accessible bathroom. 56,000 people use this station every day, among the top 10 Seibu line stations. It is the closest station to Koganei Park, so many people use it to get to the park.
Places to see
Near Hana Koganei station are Koganei Park and the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum. Koganei Park has many spots from which to watch animals and birds, and different species of birds reside in the park depending on the season. Some popular species among birdwatchers are the Japanese grosbeak and the Daurian redstart, not to mention the other 40-plus species that inhabit the park. There are also many plants and trees of course. There is a play area for children as well.
The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is actually within Koganei Park, as part of the Sumida ward Edo-Tokyo museum. Here you can see replications of Japanese architectural styles from the Edo period to modern times. There are Japanese-style buildings as well as European inspired designs. There are over 40 buildings represented here.
