Oakhouse Kyoto Kawaramachi will hold another Mochitsuki event(rice cake pounding) in 2025!
The rice cakes are prepared to be enjoyed with various flavors, such as ozoni, soy sauce and soybean flour.
If you have something to eat with your rice cake, please bring it with you!
After Mochitsuki, Kakizome (beginning of calligraphy) will be held.
Both Mochitsuki and Kakizome, traditional Japanese culture, are precious things that are not often experienced.
Please join us for the first event of the New Year!
Non-residents of OAKHOUSE are welcome to attend and bring their friends!
*We will provide the food, but please bring your own drinks.

~What is Mochitsuki?~
Mochitsuki is a traditional Japanese event where people pound steamed glutinous rice using a mallet (kine) and mortar (usu) to make rice cakes (mochi). It is held to wish for health and happiness in the New Year, bringing families and communities together in a joyful celebration.

~What is Kakizome?~
Kakizome is a traditional Japanese custom where people write their aspirations, goals, or auspicious words with a brush and ink at the beginning of the New Year. This practice symbolizes a fresh start and is meant to bring growth and success for the year ahead.

*The event is scheduled to end around 5:00 p.m., but may end earlier depending on the progress of the event. You are welcome to join or leave during the session!
