Have you ever made your own shimenawa?
Shimenawa is one of the traditional Japanese New Year decorations.
Shimenawa are made of rice straw and white paper called shide, and are displayed in sacred places or at the entrances of houses.
It serves as a boundary to prevent bad things from entering.
By decorating them at New Year's, they are meant to prepare for the new year with a pure heart and mind.

This time, we will weave paper strings to make a shimenawa (sacred rope).
The ropes can be taken home to decorate your room or to give as souvenirs when you return home.
After making your own shimenawa, we will have a social event.
Let's enjoy making shimenawa together!
*This event does not have a professional instructor, but our staff will teach you how to make it.
