The autumn tradition of the Nishijin area, centered around Imadegawa-Omiya in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, is the Nishijin Traditional Culture Festival: "Senryo-ga-tsuji."

This festival takes place along Omiya Street (between Imadegawa Street and Nakadachiuri Street)—a historic area where thread wholesalers and textile merchants once lined the streets from the Edo period to the early Showa period, earning it the reputation where "trades worth 1,000 ryo took place in a single day."

Location: Omiya Street (Around Imadegawa-dori to Nakadachiuri-dori)

Highlights & Features:

Kyoto Townhouse (Kyo-machiya) Public Openings: Get rare inside access to historic merchant homes and their inner courtyard gardens (tsuboniwa), which are normally closed to the public.

Exhibition & Sales of Nishijin Textiles and Kimono Accessories: A variety of Nishijin textile products, traditional kimono items, and local handicrafts will be displayed and sold along the street.

Collaboration with Seimei Shrine’s "Seimei Festival": Held on the same day, the portable shrines (mikoshi) and processions from the Seimei Festival pass through the area, bringing great energy and excitement.

Strolling in Kimono: Many visitors attend dressed in kimono, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the historic atmosphere of Nishijin in traditional Japanese attire.

It is a community-driven cultural festival where you can directly experience the traditions of Nishijin textiles and the living culture of Kyoto townhouses.
