Railway Overview
The Fukutoshin line shares a line with the Yurakucho line from Wakoshi to Kotake-mukaibara. There is also through service Kotake-Mukaibara through the Seibu Yurakucho line and Seibu Ikebukuro line, and from Wakoshi station through the Tobu Tojo line. From Shibuya station, there is through service to the Tokyu Toyoko line, and the end of the Toyoko line at Yokohama station goes through to the Yokohama Municipal Minatomirai line. Therefore, from Seibu line stations like Tokorozawa and Hanno or Tobu line stations like Ogawacho or Kawagoe, you can get to Minatomitai in Yokohama or Chukagai Chinatown without have to transfer at all. From Wakoshi into Tokyo, it passes through Itabashi and Nerima wards into Ikebukuro, then through Shinjuku and Shibuya wards. The Fukutoshin line is used by many, many people for commuting to work or school. Plus, outside of major stations, there are many livable areas.
Places to see
Ikebukuro station is a hub for many other lines, so it has a huge number of department stores and other shopping, including Lumine, Tobu, Seibu, and Parco. There are also many electronics stores, with competitive prices. Ikebukuro is also home to Sunshine Aquarium and movie theaters. It has a thriving subculture scene to rival Akihabara. Shinjuku-sanchome is home to Takashimaya, Marui, and Isetan department stores, as well as a huge combination Bic Camera and Uniqlo store. Also, construction on JR Shinjuku station is nearly finished, and it has been turned into a huge building, with a bus terminal that serves many other areas. There are other department stores here too, like NEWoMan, and the area continues to expand. Shibuya of course is also home to plenty of shopping, like Hikarie opened in recent years, and Shibuya Cast which opened in 2017. Of course there is also the famous 109 building. It is popular with young people throughout the world.
Lifestyle
The line is made up of both residential area stops and hub terminal stations, so it is very convenient. Smaller stations will have supermarkets and convenience stores, and traveling into Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, and Shibuya will give you access to enjoyable weekend outings. Plus, you can also get to Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, and many other places easily. Live in Saitama, commute to Tokyo, go to Chinatown on the weekends... so many possibilities.
