Social Residence Yokohama: Guide to Hodogaya

Only 1 stop and 3 minutes away from Yokohama station! This is a new share house on the JR Tokaido line at Hodogaya station. We explored the area around Social Residence Yokohama's closest station, Hodogaya, and found many great shops to share with you!

Oak Explorer members
The members of our excursion crew are me the manager (Fukui), Kan and Ito from marketing, and Nishimura and Sakai, who are residents of the share house.

Great view of Yokohama city and Mt. Fuji!

About the house
The house is a 12-minute walk from Hodogaya station on top of a hill. To the west is Mt. Fuji, and to the east you can see the Bay Bridge and Landmark Tower. From the roof, it will be easy to see fireworks in the summer and the Hakone marathon in the winter! It's only 1 stop away from Yokohama station, too.

See Yokohama landmarks Bay Bridge and Landmark Tower!

You can see Mt. Fuji from the roof!

The Hodogaya area was a stop along the old Tokaido road.

Hodogaya was a well-known spot to rest along the old Tokaido road. There are many ukiyo-e style paintings depicting the period around the town.
Now, off to find some nice shops!

BLACK LAB COMPANY

LEVEL 4

Pieces Cafe

Cafe popular with mothers during the day, and bar popular with all at night!
For a change of scenery, we ventured to the east exit.
Leave the east exit and cross the bridge from Hodogaya station and you'll find the shop here on the 1st floor.
This is a really nice open cafe, and we learned that the owner used to live in a share house in Singapore!

The eggs benedict was delicious: poached egg on top of english muffin.
The yolk was nice and creamy, and the hollandaise sauce was great too. Don't forget the bacon!

The manager, on the far, right, spoke perfect English.

The manager was so fun and easy to talk to!

Fantastic eggs benedict!

The manager is bilingual, so if you are a foreigner living in SR Yokohama this could be a great regular spot!
There are actually many foreigners in Hodogaya.
This would be a nice spot to come hang out with your other sharemates!

Hodogaya ekimae Heights 107, 123 Iwaicho, Hodogaya, Yokohama
During the day, there are many mothers with their kids taking a coffee break, and at night, many foreigners come to drink a beer and watch a game!

Daini Tokiwa-yu

A public bath where you can feel the history of Hodogaya.
Next, we went to Daini Tokiwa-yu, a bath that Fukui recommends highly.
It has been in business for over 60 years.
It's the only public bath left in the area.

We arrived right at 3:30, when they open, but there were already many people there. It's a popular spot with the locals.
We warmed ourselves to the core!

Go through this narrow path to reach the bath.

Old-style baths!

Of course there is a bath in the share house, but sometimes you want to come to a much bigger one!

We are opening more and more houses like SR Yokohama with large baths, but sometimes you want to experience something a bit more traditionally Japanese. Trust us, it's great!

Editor's note

Hodogaya, a comfortable town
The best parts of Hodogaya are that it's easy to feel comfortable here, and the residents are friendly. The Oak Explorers have explored many other towns, but this is probably the friendliest. We've opened a share house in the middle of this town, some come to Social Residence Yokohama if you want to experience the richness of this area!

We had a great time in Yokohama / Hodogaya!
