Area information of Edogawa Station

Station overview

Edogawa station is in Tokyo's Edogawa ward, in the Kita-Koiwa area. It is on the Keisei main line, as a local-only stop, and you can get to Nippori station in 28 minutes with no change. Most people riding the Keisei main line express services change or get off at other terminal stations, meaning that it's not too bad a ride even during peak hours. The Keisei main line splits at Aoto; trains going toward Oshiage go through the Asakusa line, giving one access to Nihonbashi, Shinbashi, and Shinagawa without having to transfer. A short walk from the station there is a bus stop that goes to Koiwa station. There is a supermarket near the station, and a shopping street nearby. Though there are no real chain stores to speak of, there are still plenty of old-style shops that will have most everything you need.

Places to see

As the name suggests, the station is right next to the Edo river and is the first thing you will see when you exit the ticket gate. The Edogawa river splits from the Tone river at a point near Ibaraki and Chiba. The river is a breeding ground for mudskipper fish and dragonflies. The Koiwa Shobu Garden is a walking garden right next to the station, extending over 4,900 square meters. From May to June around 50,000 irises bloom, making for a Tokyo oasis. This is also a popular spot from which to watch the Edogawa ward fireworks festival held every summer.

Lifestyle

The Edogawa river is a Keisei main line stop, but also goes through on the Toei Asakusa line, giving you no-transfer access to Shinbashi and Shinagawa, convenient for work or school. The station area has comparatively fewer places to shop than others, so care must be taken when returning home late, as many stores will be closed. That said, it is a very quiet residential neighborhood, with lots of places to go for nice walks, runs, jobs, or bike rides along the river. Plus in addition to the Shobu Garden there are lots of flower fields that give you a new sight every season.
