Station overview
Kinshicho station is in Tokyo's Sumida ward, and on the JR Sobu local and express lines as well as the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon line. It opened in 1894 under a different name and took the name Kinshicho starting in 1915. The station building was burned down during the war, then was rebuilt, and the station building Termina was added in 1961. The LaGirl building opened on the north side in 1980, with many shops in the station. Remodeling was performed on the station building exterior in 2017. The station has an average daily ridership of 105,342 for the Metro portion, an increase over the last 15 years. The JR portion daily ridership is 106,164. It is a very busy station, ranking 3rd on the line overall.
Places to see
Near Kinshicho station, you can find ArcaKit Kinshicho and Kinshicho Park, as well as other leisure centers, temples, and shrines. ArcaKit Kinshicho is about 100 meters from the station, with 12 floors total. On the basement you can find a grocery store and drog store. Floors 1 and 2 have fashion stores. Floor 3 is fast food and other services. Floors 4 through 9 have well-known brands, like Uniqlo and Muji, as well as a 100-yen Daiso shop. Floor 10 has restaurants, and floor 11 is a photo studio. You can find all sorts of goods, items, and services here.
Kinshicho Park is a good place to relax, with a place for children to play, a large grass area, places to play baseball and tennis, and an outdoor pool. There is also a sports gym. It is just a 3-minute walk from the station, and it is mostly free except for some paid areas.
Lifestyle
There are many shops near Kinshicho station, as well as plenty of supermarkets like Seiyu, Seijo-Ishii, and more, all convenient for daily shopping. The park extends from the north side of the station. Walk toward Kamedo to find a Don Quixote stores. On the Sobu line you have access to Shinjuku or Akihabara. Plus you can get to Tokyo station in around 10 minutes, perfect if you need to catch a Shinkansen bullet train for extended travel. There are also many temples and shrines in the area, and Tokyo SkyTree is within walking distance.
