Area information of Matsudo
Station overview
Matsudo station is in Matsudo city in Chiba prefecture. It is on the JR and Shin-Keisei lines. On the express, you can get to Ueno in 20 minutes. The Ueno Tokyo Line opened in 2015, and since the Joban express trains link to the Tokaido line, you can now get to Tokyo and Shinagawa without transferring. The Joban local also connects with the Chiyoda line for direct access to Otemachi in 30 minutes. It is also connected to a Tozai line stop, Kyojo station. There is an east and west exit, and the station building is connected directly to the Atre Matsudo shopping mall, a very convenient place to shop for all sorts of things. The area also has good bus coverage to various residential neighborhoods.
Places to see
Matsudo has always been a convenient bedroom town for commuters. Some people might not be aware that there are actually some nice sights to see as well. The Tojogaoka Historical Park is an area that used to be the residence of the final daimyo of the Mito domain, Tokugawa Akitake, who happens to be the younger brother of the last shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, Tokugawa Yoshinobu. Akitake was an instrumental figure in efforts to modernize Japan in the Meiji period. The park is a great nature spot with a fantastic old residential building. The Tojo residence was an elite residence built in 1884, with a beautiful garden modeled after a western garden that Akitake saw at the Paris World Fair.
Matsudo is also home to many lovely temples and shrines.
Lifestyle
Because Matsudo station is on the JR Joban express and local lines as well as the Shin-Keisei line, it has good access to other areas of Chiba and Tokyo. You can get to Ueno station in 20 minutes on the express, and since it also has through service on the Tokaido line via the Tokyo Ueno line, you can also get to Tokyo and Shinagawa with no transfers. On the local line you can get to Otemachi in 30 minutes. Plus, the Atre shopping mall has all sorts of convenient shops for daily life, in addition to Isetan and Ito Yokato department stores. The Edogawa river flows nearby, and there are plenty of historical shrines and temples. It is a great and convenient place to escape from the noise of the metropolis and still have an easy life.
