Area information of Oizumi Gakuen

Station overview

Oizumi Gakuen station is in Nerima ward in Tokyo, and is on the Seibu Ikebukuro line. It opened in 1924, saw reform work done in 1983, and has not changed much since. Trains from platform 1 head toward Ikebukuro, Shin-Kiba, and Shibuya, while platform 2 trains head toward Tokorozawa and Hanno. Other than local service, there are several other rapid and express services. Since 2009, the station melody has been the theme song from Leiji Matsumoto's famous work Galaxy Express 999. This area in Nerima ward happens to be the home of Japanese animation, which gave birth to such mainstay hits as Astro Boy. Today there are around 90 animation companies in the area. In 2008, Mr. Matsumoto was chosen to be honorary station chief for a day, and the station and surrounding area was decorated with statues of characters from Galaxy Express 999.

Places to see

Near Oizumi Gakuen station you can find Shakujii Park and Yumeria Fuente.
Shakujii park is run by Tokyo prefecture. Inside there are two large ponds that attract many water birds that make for great bird watching. It also has an impressive amount of trees, 3 baseball diamonds, an outdoor stage, a boating dock, and small stores.
Yumeria Fuente is a 4-floor shopping mall right outside the station. Inside are a clinic, shops where you can get daily goods, cafes and restaurants, and the mall holds many events as well. It is used every day by locals using the station.

Lifestyle

With 2 large shopping malls, you will have an easy time getting the things you need day to day near Oizumi Gakuen. A pedestrian deck provides easy access to both.
The area is not that crowded, and there are many quiet and safe residential neighborhoods. Mostly families live here, but this is also a good place to live if you are a single worker or student who needs to head into Ikebukuro. You can get there in just 15 minutes without having to transfer, and if you take the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin line you can use the through service to get to Shinjuku 3-chome in 20 minutes, or to Shibuya in 30.
