Station overview
Shimo-Ochiai station is in Shinjuku ward in Tokyo, on the Seibu Shinjuku line. It opened in 1927, and was moved to its present location in 1930. A new station building was built in 1986. Average daily ridership is 12,000. It is just 3.2 kilometers from Shinjuku station, giving you great access into a major part of Tokyo. It is a local station only. It has elevators in the station connecting the platform to the gate.
Places to see
Places to see around Shimo-Ochiai station inclide the Nakamura Tsune Atelier Museum and the Stamp Museum. The Nakamura Tsune Atelier Museum is 800 meters from Shimo-Ochiai station, and is dedicated to the work of Japanese painter Tsune Nakamura. It reproduces his art studio as it was during his life, and is housed in a traditional building. Displays of his work have detailed and easy-to-understand inscriptions. It's a great window into the life of an artist in Taisho-era Japan.
The Stamp Museum is also quite interesting, collecting and displaying postage stamps from all over the world. It's worth a visit whether you're a stamp collector or not.

The Shimo-Ochiai area is quite safe, and still quite close to Shinjuku. Plus you can walk to Takadanobaba station easily to take even more lines and get to other Tokyo areas.
