Area information of Tachikawa

Station overview

Tachikawa station is in Tokyo's Tachikawa city. It lies on 3 JR lines, the Chuo, Ome, and Nambu lines. It is an important terminal station outside the 23 Tokyo wards, serving 160,000 riders per day. The station began in 1889, originally as a station on the old Kobu Railway, connecting to Shinjuku. Major remodeling work was done in 1982, and then later in 2016. The Chuo line sees many more riders than the other two lines, and the platforms and lines were re-designed around this. There are 5 exits, and many shops around them. There is also a JR ticket office. You can also change to the Tama Toshi Monorail.

Places to see

There are many things to see near Tachikawa station. Connected to the station is the Lumine department store, filled with many places to buy clothes and eat food, or purchase your daily needs. Another place nearby is Showa Memorial Park, a large park through which the Tama river flows. There are spaces for barbecues, dog runs, a pool, a bird pond, futsal court, and many other ways to enjoy sports or nature. There is also a restaurant and cafe and other shops within the park. It is a beautiful place to visit to see the changes year round.

Lifestyle

As a major terminal station, Tachikawa grants easy access to other parts of Tokyo. On the Chuo line you can get to Shinjuku or Tokyo. From the Nambu line you can get to Musashi Kosugi or Kawasaki, so it is an important station for students and workers, either for work or study or play. The area surrounding the station has plenty of supermarkets, a shopping mall, and department stores like Takashimaya. There are also drugstores, restaurants, grocers, and other conveniences. Being able to get to Shinjuku in 30 minutes is a huge plus. You have the convenience of the city near the station and through its train access, as well as the beauty of nature at the Park.
