Meet Lucas, a creative soul finding inspiration, friendship, and a new rhythm of life in Yokohama. From Kyoto to Tokyo and now Yokohama, Lucas has been discovering Japan through travel, creative work, new friendships, and everyday life in a share house.

Lucas arrived in Japan around the end of January or beginning of February.
His Japanese journey began in Kyoto, where he spent time exploring the city and often traveling to nearby Osaka. Then came Tokyo, where he lived for about a month.
By the end of March, he had moved again.

This time to Yokohama.

And unlike his previous home, Lucas found himself living in an Oakhouse Social Residence, a type of share house designed around gathering, social interaction, and shared experiences.

For Lucas, one of the best things about living in a Social Residence is how naturally it creates opportunities to meet people. With shared spaces and areas where residents can gather, there are plenty of chances to have a conversation, cook together, watch a movie, or simply spend time around other people.
Lucas has also met several housemates who share his interest in creative work. For someone involved in modeling, art, and video creation, having people around him with similar interests has made the house more than just a place to live. It has become a place where ideas, friendships, and everyday experiences come together.

When we asked Lucas about his favorite memory with his housemates, he had a hard time choosing just one.
And perhaps that's the best answer.
Cooking together. Eating together. Watching movies together.
For Lucas, it's not necessarily the big events that make living with housemates special. It's all the little moments that happen naturally when people share a home.

Kamakura.
Living in Kamiooka means Kamakura is close enough for an easy day trip, and one day Lucas and his housemates decided to try something new together:
Surfing.
At first, it was a little scary.
But once Lucas managed to get up and ride the board, the fear quickly turned into fun.
“At first it was a bit scary, but once you ride it, it becomes fun.”
A pretty good description of trying new things in Japan, too.

Lucas' life in Japan isn't just about sightseeing.
He is involved in creative work, working with agencies and sometimes modeling in art galleries. And his modeling experiences can be quite different from what people might imagine. Some days, he spends hours simply holding one pose while artists draw him.
A typical session can run from 10:00 to 17:00.
20 minutes. One pose. Don't move.
Then comes a five-minute break. And then another 20 minutes. Again and again.“You're not allowed to move during those 20 minutes.”
It requires patience, concentration, and probably a lot more physical endurance than most people would expect from modeling.

But Lucas isn't only interested in being in front of the artwork. He's also creating his own. Alongside modeling, he works on creative projects of his own, including video pieces and other forms of visual expression.
Sometimes he's the subject. Sometimes he's the creator. And perhaps that's what makes his creative life in Japan so interesting: he's able to experience art from both sides.

We asked Lucas:If you could bring one thing from your home country to your Oakhouse, what would it be?

He laughed.“Bread.”
And honestly, it makes perfect sense. Bread is an important part of everyday food culture in Germany, where it can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between.


Lucas also had a possible explanation for his craving:“Maybe I just haven't found the right bakery yet.”
So perhaps one of his next missions in Japan is not another adventure in Kamakura, but finding that perfect loaf of bread. The search continues.

For Lucas, his time in Japan has been a series of new environments.
Kyoto→Tokyo→Yokohama.
New cities. New experiences. New people.
And at his Social Residence, he's found a place where meeting people happens naturally, where shared spaces create opportunities for unexpected conversations, and where everyday moments can turn into memories. Cooking together. Watching a movie. Meeting people who share the same creative interests. Or learning to surf together in Kamakura.
Sometimes, it's the little moments that make a place feel like home.
