Railway Overview
The Seibu Kokubunji line is composed of 5 lines. The line opened in 1894 and has been in operation for over 120 years. It runs a short distance of 7.8 km, passing through Kokubunji, Higashimurayama, and Kodaira city in Tokyo. It starts in Kokubunji and ends in Higashimurayama. It is a minor line among the Seibu railway lines but has a very strong and unique local flavor. The area is not as well-equipped as central Tokyo in terms of travel convenience, which is why this line is so important. During part of the day, it runs direct through to the Seibu Shinjuku line to Hon-Kawagoe station, and sometimes through the Seibu-en line. People living along the Seibu Kokubunji line enjoy the idyllic lifestyle.
Places to see
The area the Seibu Kokubunji line runs through is well-known for its closeness to nature, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy it. Kokubunji itself has many historical spots, like the site of the ancient Musashi Kokubunji temple, Tonogayato Garden, and more. Takanodai station is near the Tamagawa aqueduct, and Ogawa station has the Nakajuku shopping street, beloved by locals. Last stop Higashimurayama station has the 100-year Railway Opening Memorial, Ken Shimura's tree, and the Fuchu Road. Ken Shimura is a famous comedian who is from Higashimurayama, so many fans come to see his hometown.
Lifestyle
Even if you think living in Tokyo sounds daunting, you don't have to feel that way along the Seibu Kokubunji line. Rent prices are affordable, and there are many supermarket and other daily conveniences. Plus, you will be surrounded by nature and can live a relaxing life. Plus, there's easy access into the city. The Seibu, Tama, and JR Chuo line run through Kokubunji station, and from Furukawa station you can get to the Haijima line, from Higashimurayama you can get to the Shinjuku or Seibu-en lines (both direct), so you also have access to the Tama region.
