Railway Overview

The monorail also passes through Tachikawa, Hino, and Hachioji cities, and is an important transportation line for the Tama region. The monorail runs for 16 km, and only began in 1998. Though there are many lines outside the 23 Tokyo wards that run east-west, but few running north-south, which is where the Tama Monorail comes in. Because the monorail lines are very high up, there are wonderful views from the train. Some people come to see the train itself. There are plans to extend the line in the future.
Among the 19 stations, you can change to other trains at 5 of them, making for more convenient access to other parts of Tokyo.

Places to see

Near Tama Center station is Sanrio Puroland, a theme park based around characters like Hello Kitty. It is popular among families, couples, and friends, with many attractions. There are several different areas within the park, and fans can buy special Sanrio goods.
Around Tama Dobutsuen station is the Tama Zoo, with animals mostly from Asia, Africa, and Australia. They even have very rare insects. It is easy to get to and popular with families and couples. The zoo has a successful breeding program for Japanese Crested Ibises. There are 5 walking courses through the zoo, so you can best enjoy your time and the animals you want to see. There are also guided tours.

Lifestyle

Though the 19 stations along the Tama Monorail are all different, nonetheless they are all safe affordable areas with residential areas and schools. There are also many place sto eat and drink. The areas around the station all have convenient shops for your day to day needs.
The line is good for commuting to work or school, and you can also get to the Tachikawa area and change to the JR lines. It is a good balance between convenience and rent price, and many people are newly moving here.
