Railway Overview

The Ikegami line runs from 10.9 km and has 15 stations. The Ikegami line was built in 1922 in order to bring in people visiting the Ikegami Honmonji temple, going 1.8 km between Kamata and Ikegami stations. 6 years later in 1928 it was extended to Gotanda station. It along with the Tamagawa line were called the "Iketama". It is a local service line, with 3-car trains, and runs through a relaxed area. From Gotanda to Kamata takes only 22 minutes. Many of the stations are quite old, and have wooden buildings and benches. Essentially the line connects the business districts in Gotanda to the government and business areas in Kamata. From Gotanda to Yukigaya Otsuka it runs alongside Nakahara road and from Yukigaya Otsuka to Kamata runs alongside Kanpachi dori. On the west side, it goes along with the Meguro and Tamagawa lines then ends at Kamata. From here you can walk easily to Chidoricho station or Shimo-Maruko station, so if you live in this area you have the convenience of two different lines.

Places to see

The Tokyu Ikegami line stations are near shopping areas that are very walkable and have many hidden discoveries waiting. One of the largest is around Togoshi Ginza station, with 400 different shops selling fresh food and more. Plus it is within walking distance of the Toei Asakusa line via Togoshi station, JR Osaki station, Tokyu Oimachi line Togoshi Koen station. This way it will be easy to buy dinner or any other things you need on your way home at night. The area is ranked highly livable and is very popular. And, there is the reason the line exists in the first place Ikegami Honmonji temple. Many people come on new years day to visit. The temple was established 700 years ago in 1282. There is a festival every October to celebrate Nichiren that lasts 3 days and often sees over 300,000 people every day. There are many important and historical properties on the grounds of the temple.

Lifestyle

Because the entire line runs outside the metropolis, there are affordable residential areas. The station areas may be small but the still have supermarkets, drugstores, and other convenient shops, all away from the bustle of the city in a quiet area.
