Railway Overview
Between Tokyo and Nishi-Ogikubo station is within the 23 special Tokyo wards, and from there on out it is outside the wards, into western Tokyo. It is an important line, and since it stops at Shinjuku is is vital for businesspeople. It has many connections to other lines. Between Tokyo and Nakano station, you can change trains at almost all stations, except Shinanocho and Okubo. It sees a huge number of riders daily.
People often want to rent along the Chuo line, but its areas have high prices within the 23 wards. However, once you get outside the wards, rent prices get comparatively lower, so many families live out that way. The line is most often used to commute into Tokyo. It can get really crowded, but it has plenty of merits too.
Places to see
Because the Chuo line passes through many areas of Tokyo, you can see the diverse range of what the city has to offer. Tokyo has a reputation as a new and ever-developing city, but in places like Kanda you can still experience old Tokyo. There are old bookstores, old restaurants, and lots of history. Yoyogi station is near Meiji shrine and Shinjuku Gyoen park. Okubo is home to one of Tokyo's largest Korea towns, where you can enjoy many different kinds of Asian cuisine. It's also close to Kabukicho, which is lively day or night. Nakano also has plenty to offer, like Nakano Sun Plaza or Momijiyama Park. Many people choose to live wherever they think is most interesting.
Lifestyle
Areas outside the 23 wards along the Chuo line tend to be bedroom towns. Rent prices tend toward the high, but depending on how close the room is to the station or your commute time, you may find it worth it. Not only does it have great access to the city, but also relaxing nature spots like Takao and Okutama. Along this line you can also find Kichijoji station, which is known for its local culture and a great place to live. Further flung stations often have large shopping malls, making for convenient living environments.
