Railway Overview

The JR Yokosuka line runs from Tokyo station to Kurihama station in Yokosuka city. It passes through Tokyo, Shinbashi, Shinagawa, and Yokohama stations, so it has a large amount of users, many of whom are workers from Yokosuka, Zushi, or Kamakura heading in to Tokyo or Yokohama for work. This line has been in operation for over 100 years, and is am important lifeline to residents of this area. In recent years bedroom communities have sprung up around Musashi Kosugi station and more, with tower apartments being built. The line runs for 73.3 km. Part of the line runs on the same tracks as the Shonan Shinjuku line, make it easy to get to Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. Plus, it's easy to get to stations that lie along Shinkansen bullet train routes. Further, the Narita Express takes the same route, so you can easily get to Narita Airport.

Places to see

The Yokosuka line is made up of 19 stations, many of them well-known in Tokyo, Tokyo station being perhaps the most famous. This station which was once the heart of Japan has been completely redeveloped into Tokyo Station City. It has new high-rise buildings, many shops, restaurants, and more. Shinagawa is home to Aqua Park Shinagawa, an aquarium in the middle of the city that draws many visitors. Yokohama has many leisure spots where people young and old can enjoy. Kita-Kamakura station in Kanagawa has Enkakuji, Kenchoji, Meigetsuin, and Tokei temples, among many others. Yokosuka station is right on the edge of the ocean, so you can enjoy walks, the Verny park, and other historical aspects of Yokosuka, from shipbuilding to ironworks.

Lifestyle

The people who live along the Yokosuka line enjoy the convenience of the commute. The areas in Kanagawa prefecture are well-equipped as bedroom towns for Tokyo workers, and even if you live near Yokosuka or Kamakura stations you can get to Tokyo, Shinagawa, or Shinbashi in just 1 train. However, rent prices are not always cheap along this line. You may wish to extend your housing search outside of Tokyo. The areas in Kanagawa can be relaxing and quiet, and convenient for daily life. Zushi, Yokosuka, and Kamakura make up the Shonan area, which is famous for its beaches. How nice would it be to live right between your office job and the beach?
