Railway Overview
The 12-station Keio Sagamihara line was opened in 1916, and its most recent extension was in 1990. It is useful for commuters to school or work, serving bedroom communities for those going in to the 23 Tokyo wards. It runs for 22.6 km, with several kinds of services.
From 5 of the stations you can transfer to other lines, and some trains have direct through service toward Shinjuku. The 12 stations span 8 municipalities.
Places to see
There are many things to see along the Keio Sagamihara line, one of which is Yomiuri Land, a large and popular theme park with many attractions, including a ferris wheel, roller coasters, haunted house, and racing games. Popular comedians and talents also perform live here. Sometimes there are collaboration events with movies or popular characters. There are also restaurants, and a barbecue with a popular hamburger.
Around Keio Tama Center station is the Tama Art University Museum, which displays art throughout history. Entrance is 300 yen for adults and 200 yen for students, with junior high and younger entering free. They have many archaeological pieces from Ancient Egypt and Greece, as well as Picasso pottery and Japanese oil paintings.
Lifestyle
The Keio Sagamihara line boasts bedroom towns like the Tama New Town area, convenient areas well equipped with all the shops you will need day to day. There are many families living in these areas, so there are also facilities geared toward children. Rent prices tend to be lower than the main city.
With direct service you can easily get to Shinjuku, either every day for your commute or on weekends for shopping and leisure.
