Oak Explorers: Omori
Ōmori Furusato-no-Hamabe Park
The Omori area is covered by Keikyu Main line Omorikaigan station, Keikyu main line Omoricho station , and JR Keihin Tohoku line Omori station. Keikyu main line Omori station is just 5 minutes from Keikyu Kamata station, or 20 minutes to Shinagawa. There is a shopping street near the station where you can find a greengrocer, cafe, supermarket, drug store, fast food, rental video shop, 24-hour gym, and more things that will be convenient day to day. There are also many well-known and highly-regarded western food restaurants in the area. The Machinoma Omori mall opened in November 2018, containing 40 businesses, and has become a new landmark for the Omori area. We took a look around this town to find out what’s great about it!
Omoricho shopping street
The shopping starts right outside the station. The Oak Explorers started out around 11 am, so there were a lot of people out shopping for food for lunch. There are a lot of small yet convenient stores around here, making for an energetic atmosphere.
It's always good to have a book store/rental video and 100 yen shop nearby!
-Tsutaya Omoricho station
-Can Do Omoricho
Fast food is nice on days you don't have time to cook.
-Matsuya Omoricho
-McDonald's Omoricho
This is a really affordable supermarket. It's not that big but it has plenty of things. They have a good meat selection too.
-Super Nanbuya
It's always happy to find a flower shop. You might be inspired to bring home a beautiful bouquet.
-Miki flower shop
Omoricho's new landmark: Machinoma Omori
Exit the shopping street at the end continue on the right to find Machinoma Omori, which opened in November 2018. It has 40 businesses, including a supermarket, restaurants, and fashion shops. Definitely check out the community space Machinoma no ma, which holds workshops, events, and more to enliven the community. This is a residential area so it is a convenient place for people to gather, whether they've lived here for years or just moved to town.
This river used to be an important waterway, but still today you can spot little fish there. We even saw people with poles along the bank! Now, we head toward Omori Furusato no Hamabe Park.
Walking along the waterway, we headed toward Omori Furusato no Hamabe Park. In olden times this waterway was used to grow kelp. It has beautiful sakura trees in the spring. Even though it was a hot day I got a hot coffee!
Finally we reach our destination, and see a wide blue sky. There is an artificial beach in the park, and while it's against the rules to play in the water, it was still a wonderful sight. It has nature, a nice breeze, and a good walking path.
I almost fell asleep it was so nice! What a wonderful breeze. Next time I'll bring a picnic blanket and bento lunch. There are also 4 footsal and beach volleyball courts, which Ota-ward-residents can use for cheap. Come and play here with housemates!
Lots of fun at Heiwanomori Park
Heiwanomori Park has many things you can enjoy for free, and some that require a small fee (like the sports leisure sections). At the Omori Nori Museum, you can learn about the local kelp production of the past. They have many displays of materials from the 1920s to the present.
Editor's notes
So what did you think about Omori? It's an area with a long history, and still has a lot going for it. It has a new mall, a convenient shopping street, nice parks, and more. Plus you can easily get into major parts of the city by train, so it has everything you could want. I hope next time I can visit other Omori train stations, but until then, why not come make an appointment to see the house near here? Thanks for reading!
