Oak Explorers: Kami-Kitazawa

We have a new Social Residence share house in Kami-Kitazawa in Setagaya, Tokyo! The closest station is Kami-Kitazawa station on the Keio line. We explored the area to show you just what kind of place it is!

Our report on Kami-Kitazawa

Keio line Kami-Kitazawa station

Relaxing town
You can get to the rest of the city easily from here. It's just 15 minutes from Shinjuku by train. With just 1 transfer you can get to Shibuya in 20 minutes (use the Inokashira line). You'll pass Shimokitazawa on the way too. There are so many neat things to find here, and it's a perfect spot for dates, taking pictures, or strolling through the park by the lake. You might even be surprised to find such a place in Tokyo. Around the station are supermarkets, grocers, cafes and bars, izakaya, and other convenient things for your everyday life.

Shogunchi Park

Good for picnics or walks
This spot is 7 minutes from the station. Go in a little further to find the beautiful lake. You'll probably hear the sounds of geese. It was fun taking pictures of them!

Garden Flowers

Overflowing with flowers!
We were hit by a beautiful floral smell the second we entered the store. All we could see were flowers! It's like a different world inside, with so many colors and types. It made us want to come here and by a new flower every day just for decoration.

Bakery STAY FREE

Strong spirit!
This bakery is loved by the locals. We tried the raisin bread, which was delicious. We wanted to try every single type of bread they had. But once you start doing that, then their menu changes with the seasons, and you'd have to start all over! They open from 7:30 in the morning, so you'll probably be able to grab some bread on the way to work. We also recommend the walnut bread, cookies, pudding, honey jam, and everything else, really!

Restaurant La vie en Rose

Tasty quiche!
It smelled so good when we walked in that we couldn't wait to sit down and order lunch. Today, we had pumpkin soup, onion tart, and a quiche with salmon, mushrooms, and asparagus. We also had a little cake and tea. The tart and quiche were crispy and light, and you could really taste the great ingredients. The onions were really sweet too, with a slight saltiness. It's great here, even if you come just for tea time.

Japanese sweets Shizuhana

Japanese sweets close to the share house!
This shop has been here for a long time, and they sell traditional Japanese sweets in many forms. Not-too-sweet anko red bean paste goes perfectly with the chewy dango mochi. Also...it's really close to the share house! 1 stick of dango is 108 yen, so you may be tempted to by one every day!

Coffee shop Fractal

Wake up with some coffee
Continuing the theme of being bowled over by great smells, we headed into a coffee shop, where we were almost knocked right off our feet. The owner runs everything by herself. She buys the beans, roasts them, packages them, and everything. We were really impressed by her passion! She always has dozens of varieties out for purchase. Maybe here you can delve deep into the world of coffee.

Greengrocer Sukima

Cheap and fresh vegetables!

Low price veggies!
Right next to the station is this greengrocer, selling fruits and vegetables. It was almost too cheap to believe! 9 kiwis for 200 yen, 5 cucumbers for 150 yen...! We couldn't believe it. The owner had us try some of the wares too, a pear to be exact. If you lived here you would probably easily become a regular customer. We thought about buying tons of fruit and making sangria!

Cafe bar Ando Cafe

Open terrace and counter
This place has an open terrace, perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee among the midday breeze. You'll definitely want to sit at the counter at night for drinks, for dinner alone or with your friend or significant other. At the end of our long excursion, we went with a mango parfait, black coffee, black sesame mochi with vanilla ice cream, and a peartiser. It was actually a lot of food, so much so that when it came out we thought we'd never be able to finish it... and five minutes later, it was all gone!
