Oak Explorers

Oak Explorers: What kind of place is Minami-Urawa?

Accessible via the JR Keihin-Tohoku or Musashino lines, we explored the area around Minami-Urawa station, the closest to Social Residence Minami-Urawa!

Cafe Kinari Deli
A 7-minute walk from the west exit of Minami-Urawa station.
Cafe Kinari Deli is in a nice residential area of Minami-Urawa, and is focused on home-cooked vegetable dishes made from locally-grown produce. They have a rotating lunch plate menu, and in the evening it turns into a sort of bar where you can have a drink or two alongside your delicious veggies. The lunch dishes are all made by the owner. You can also order takeaway in the form of a bento, so sometimes they sell out very shortly after opening!

That was the case when we visited this day. ;_;
But, we had some snacks!
The owner has a policy of not doing too much advertising, and there's no web site, so if you're feeling adventurous, try tracking down this cafe!

Ramen Toramaru
6 minutes from Minami-Urawa station west exit.
A nice Jiro-ramen-style shop! Lots of fat noodles in rich broth. The student sitting next to us got "the works" and finished in no time flat! Come ye, hungry students!

Maxim usually doesn't eat much, but he enjoyed the ramen!

Bakery Petit Riche
6 minutes from Minami-Urawa station west exit.
Along our walk, we smelled something great. We followed our noses to Petit Riche.
The interior looks great and the bread itself looked so cute!
We got coffee bread, croissant, and curry bread! We enjoyed it even though we had all just had big bowls of noodles!

Gardening goods NUMANOUE NOUEN
10 minutes from Social Residence Minami-Urawa
We found this wonderful store, with a 100-year-old garden! There were many different kinds of plants on display. Pick you favorite plant and pick a pot! Maybe you'll find a nice plant to have in your room!

In Closing
So, that was the Oak Explorers' excursion to Social Minami-Urawa.

A lot of people don't know much about Saitama, so we hope we've been able to show you a taste. We weren't able to get many pictures because it had rained for several days straight, but we got this report done in a 3-hour window of rare sunlight! The unofficial leader of the Osanpo-tai troops, Sawada, wanted to recommend his favorite spots: Kuroneko Curry, the soba place with amazing duck broth...
We are more than happy to let you in on all these great spots if you come live in Minami-Urawa!
