Area information of Kamimachi

Station overview

Kamimachi station is in Setagaya ward in Tokyo, on the Tokyu Setagaya line, almost right in the middle of the line. Trains head toward either Shimo-Takaido, or Sangenjaya. An interesting thing about this station is that the platform is curved. There are 10 stations on the line, and average daily ridership is 110000. It's crowded at peak times, but you can get to either Shimo-Takaido or Sangenjaya in around 10 minutes. There are also many buses, and the Tokyu and Odakyu bus system is very convenient. You can get to Soshigaya Okura, Seijo Gakuen mae, Chofu, Den-en-chofu, Shibuya, and Todoroki areas easily by bus.

Places to see

The Setagaya Boro-ichi (flea market) is held on December 15th and 16th, as well as January 15th and 16th. It's an old flea market that is said to go back to 1578! There are 700 stalls during the event selling all sorts of things: antiques, plants, toys, bedding, books, and much much more. You never know what hidden gem you might find. The area where the market is held has also recently seen Edo-inspired store fronts.
The former Setagaya Daikan residence is a historical house with a museum attached where you can learn about local history.

Lifestyle

Near Kamimachi station are supermarket, drug store, hospital, and more. There are quiet residential neighborhoods, and you can easily walk to the next station over. You can also take a short train ride to Sangenjaya or Shimo-Takaido. You will need to transfer to another train to head into central Tokyo, but out here you can keep living costs down. It is not well-lit at night, but still it's quite safe.
