Area information of Nishi Kawaguchi
Station overview
Nishi-Kawaguchi is in Kawaguchi city in Saitama prefecture, along the JR Keihin-Tohoku line. It opened in 1954, and a 5-story station building was completed in 2007. Platform 1 heads south into Tokyo, while platform 2 heads north to Omiya. Average daily ridership is 57,000. Both the express and local services stop here. It lies between Kawaguchi station and Warabi station. There are escalators and elevators in the station.
Places to see
The station area is home to government offices and hospitals, but there are some spots worth seeing. The Kawanabe Kyosai Memorial Museum is actually in Warabi city, but it is still closest to Nishi-Kawaguchi station. It displays a variety of art from the end of the Edo period such as ukiyo-e.
Take a bit of a walk from the station to find the Science Museum, Science World. There is a planetarium and observatory, as well as other ways to interact and learn with science and space. It is very popular with families with children, but also a great date spot.
Lifestyle
There are many, many places to eat and drink around the station, and it's an easy place to live, shop, and play for single persons and families alike. There is a 24-hour supermarket closeby, as well as shopping center and 100-yen shop. Coupled with a Don Quixote store, you can get everything you need. It is very easy to get to Tokyo, just 2.6 kilometers to Akabane station, and easy to head further to Ueno, Akihabara, or Tokyo stations. It is convenient for students and workers, or heading into town on weekends for leisure. The station area is lively at night, but further out are quiet residential areas. Some care should be taken when looking at relative safety of areas on the east or west side of the station.
