Station overview

Kawasaki station is in Kawasaki city in Kanagawa prefecture. It lies along several JR train lines: the Keihin Tohoku, Nambu, and Tokaido lines. It opened in 1872, making it one of the very first train stations in all of Japan. The station building was constructed in 1959. Average daily ridership is over 210,000, and only increasing every year. The various lines have local and express services. Kawasaki station is very large, so there are several different exits out of the station. The station building is connected to the Atre store, making it an even more convenient location.

Places to see

The area around Kawasaki station is well-developed, with many places to shop.
Lazona Kawasaki Plaza is a large shopping mall that opened in 2006, with 287 stores over 5 floors, including Uniqlo, Muji, Loft, Namco arcade, ABC Mart, and Konami Sports Club and a movie theater. It is one of the most popular places to shop in Kawasaki, and it is easily accessible from the west exit. There are also 2,000 parking spots for bicycles.
Inage shrine is a popular Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami Takemikazuchi. It is unclear when exactly it was established, but it is quite old. Its main festival is held in early August.

Lifestyle

There is a lot of convenient shopping around Kawasaki station. It is also easy to take trains to major areas of Tokyo and Kanagawa, such as direct trains to Shinagawa or Yokohama in under 10 minutes, or good access to Tokyo and Ueno stations. There are several supermarkets nearby, many open late at night, as well as drugstores, 100 yen shops, and more daily conveniences.
