Railway Overview

The Odakyu Odawara line connects Tokyo prefecture with Kanagawa prefecture, going between Shinjuku station and Odawara station. The Odawara line is a main line of the Odakyu railway company and serves many people commuting for work into Shinjuku and beyond. Its stop at Shinjuku sees around 500,000 people per day. It also stops at Shimokitazawa and Yoyogi-Uehara, and from there you can change to the Inokashira line and Tokyo Metro Chiyoda line respectively. It runs 82.5 km and has 47 stations total, quite a lot. It has many services, including local, express, semi-express, and the luxury Romancecar. It also has through service on the JR Joban and Metro Chiyoda lines. Within the 23 Tokyo wards, there are 15 stations, and outside of the wards there are still 3 stations in Tokyo. 29 stations are in Kanagawa prefecture. It passes through 15 different municipalities, and is an important line for Kanagawa residents.

Places to see

There is plenty to see along the Odakyu Odawara line. Starting with Shinjuku, there is Kabukicho, many office buildings, and plenty of shopping. From Sangubashi station just 2 stops away, you can walk to Meiji Jingu shrine and also to famous Yoyogi Park. Shimokitazawa is a hip and popular spot with many vintage clothing shops and the Honda Theatre. Yomiuri Land-Mae is where to get off if you're going to Yomiuri Land themepark. Ebina station has seen rapid recent development, with the Vinawalk and Shopper Plaza malls.

Lifestyle

There are many residential areas along the Odakyu Odawara line, and many newly married couples tend to move out this way, as there are still reasonably-priced rentals to be found. There are convenient supermarkets and hardware stores as well as other shopping for daily life. From March 2018, there have been expansions and changes to the train diagram that have gone a long way toward solving the crowding issue. On the Romancecar you can get to Hakone, known for its hot springs. The areas further down the line are known for being comparatively affordable, relaxed, and convenient.
