Area information of Kita

Area overview

Several train lines cross Kita ward, including the JR Saikyo and Tohoku lines, Saitama railway line, and Tokyo Metro Nanboku line. It has three distinct areas: Takinogawa, Oji, and Akabane, but they have long been healthy business areas so a Japanese downtown feel still pervades. There are 300,000 people living in Kita ward, so it is a big city with many office buildings as well, but about 176,000 of these people tend to work or go to school outside the ward. Around Akabane station in particular there are large supermarkets and department stores for easy and convenient shopping. The Arakawa and Sumida rivers flow nearby so there are parks where you can escape from the city bustle.


Things to see

There are many things to see in Kita ward. Near Nishigahara station on the Nanboku line is Kyu-Furukawa Gardens, a famous western-style garden famous for its roses. It lights up spectacularly at night. Asukayama Park is a park near Asukayama station on the Toden Arakawa line, which also has various museums with displays regarding the prehistoric Jomon and Yayoi periods and archeological things.
