Kawasaki is a city in the northeastern part of Kanagawa. It is very livable and focus has been placed on it as a good place to raise children. It is close to the Tokyo metropolis as well as Yokohama, so it is convenient.


Things to see

Kawasaki city has many facilities that promote culture and the arts, and it is popular as an artist town. One popular spot is the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum, celebrating the works of the artist and writer of Doraemon and other popular Japanese manga, and can be enjoyed by all ages. The café on the 3rd floor of the museum has a special menu. Other spots worth mentioning are the Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum, with a collection of old Japanese folk houses; and the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art.
Kawasaki also has many places where you can enjoy sports. There is the Todoroki sports arena, which is home to Kawasaki’s own J-league football club, Kawasaki Frontale. As an indoor arena Todoroki arena is also used for volleyball and basketball games.

Though Kawasaki is a large city, it still has lots of areas of nature and water, and there is plenty to do and see. Ikuta Park is in the north, for example, with plenty of trees and greenery. Musashi-Kosugi is a growing residential area that is rising in popularity.

Kawasaki station is in Kawasaki city in Kanagawa prefecture. It lies along several JR train lines: the Keihin Tohoku, Nambu, and Tokaido lines. It opened in 1872, making it one of the very first train stations in all of Japan. The station building was constructed in 1959. Average daily ridership is over 210,000, and only increasing every year. The various lines have local and express services. Kawasaki station is very large, so there are several different exits out of the station. The station building is connected to the Atre store, making it an even more convenient location.
