Area information of Toshima

Area outline

Toshima ward in Tokyo has a population of 298,000 people. It is one of the most densely populated parts of Tokyo. It is the origin of the Yoshino cherry tree. As a result, the ward crest has a sakura motif. There are many universities, high schools, and industries here, so many come into Toshima to work and study. The population during the day is 1.6 times that of the regular population.
Toshima contains Ikebukuro ward with its shopping streets and high-class residential areas, as well as Sugamo, which is known as the Harajuku of elderly women. As a result, Toshima is a diverse place with many things to see and a great place to live. Ikebukuro is a popular hub for travel and business.

Things to see

As stated before, there are many special things in Toshima. Ikebukuro is probably the most well-known. There are amusement centers, shopping, and other places that attract young people. Also, it has Rikkyo university, and Tokyo University of Social Welfare, as well as office buildings.
Next is Mejiro, known as a high-class residential area. Here there is Gakushuin University, Kawamura Gakuen, and other colleges, surrounded by many trees. It is well known for being a great place to live. Gakushuin in particular is beautiful in the spring with its sakura trees.

Lifestyle

Toshima has one of the highest populations in Tokyo and is seen a metropolis. Ikebukuro being the most famous, many people come there to shop and play. Ikebukuro station handles over 2.5 million passengers per day, 2nd only to Shinjuku station. It's easy to see why Ikebukuro attracts so many people. From the station, you can take JR, Seibu, Tobu, and Tokyo Metro lines for easy access to the rest of Kanto.
It is a lively place, but also has lots of parks and nature so it's not overwhelmingly loud or bright. It's an easy city to live in.

Area information of IkebukuroStation

Ikebukuro station is in Toshima ward in Tokyo, and lines on several JR, Tobu, Seibu, and Metro lines. 2.5 million people ride 8 lines through this station every day, which is either the 2nd- or 1st-most riders on all the stations. Right now we know of Ikebukuro as a major terminal station, but in the past it was a farming village. In1885, there was no station in this area between Akabane to Shinagawa on the Saikyo line. In 1903 there were plans to extend to Mejiro, but the plan faced local opposition, so Ikebukuro station was established. The Tobu and Seibu lines opened here in 1914 and 1915 respectively, with the Metro going through here in 1954. Many people who use this station go toward Saitama or western Tokyo.
