Last week, the parents of my French roommate arrived in Tokyo from France with a suitcase full of food, so they decided to celebrate their arrival inviting everyone to a “French Party”.
It was a wonderful evening!
The real fun of the party was the father of my roommate. He is in the picture below.

He was also our chef. Look at his brilliant t-shirt.
He is an opera singer and he is extremely social and fun. He is also a good chef, as well as a fine wine taster. He and his wife gave us a memorable dinner of traditional French products and fine red wines.

A superb red wine they offered.
He sang the tune of Tosca, Carmen and other songs. Everyone spent the evening in the utmost joy.
At the beginning of the party there were not many people, but the people who came home noticed the beautiful voice filled in the house and started to show up in the living room. Eventually the room has become really crowded.
The funny thing is that, even though I was with the people I only knew for a few hours (like the French parents), I spent a perfect evening with them.

The small initial group of us. I was one of them!!! 🙂
We were connected with the magical power of alcohol to socialize too.
One thing I noticed is that the story that the Japanese people are shy and closed is not true at all. Not only they participated willingly to this spontaneous party, but some have greatly helped to make the evening fun.

An impromptu singing lesson.
For example, one of the Japanese guys has volunteered to sing when the professional singer offered a little lesson and it was hilarious: shame not to be able to hear his voice!
To continue with the fact that the Japanese people are not shy (or, at least, not all of them), I’d mention something which happened at the end of the evening. By that time, everyone knew that the party was ending, but my Japanese roommate ran into his room and he returned carrying a full bottle of rum with a smile on his face.
I feel it has been such a long time since I had that much fun in the party.
Some Italian classmates of mine who go to the same school as me tell me that they haven’t been able to know about their roommates after living together for two weeks. Thinking that, I am convinced that what have happened in this house has been a blessing for me.
It’s also interesting to know about the people from different countries of the world, listening to their stories, exploring their customs. And it’s also fun to be in a house where we organize fun evenings like this.
The takeout of this blog post is: if you happen to be invited to a “French Party” with an opera singer, accept the invitation without hesitation!
